Overview

‘Shabutsu’ is an art that involves tracing an image of a Buddhist icon. By focusing on the art, it is said that you can forget your daily troubles, put your mind at ease, and focus your mind.

Ioji Temple near Iizaka Onsen regularly holds a shabutsu art workshops at various times throughout the year. The workshop involves tracing an image of a Buddhist icon and is suitable for kids and artists of all levels. This is the perfect opportunity to relax, draw, and explore the amazing history of Ioji Temple.

This introductory event includes some special extras. Not only do you get to take home your artwork and brush, but you’ll also receive a limited Ioji Temple postcard, and a commemorative ‘goshuin’ stamp! (Goshuin stamps are a popular way to commemorate your visit to many temples and shrines around Japan! You can buy a special book and start your collection!)

Cost

Adults: 2,500 yen
Kids (12 and under): 2,000 yen
